On January 15, bio-regenerative medicine company CGBIO (CEO Hyun-seung Yu) announced that the company had obtained the ‘Family-friendly Certified Company’ certification once again after the company’s initial certification in 2019.
‘Family-friendly Certified Company’ certification is a system where the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family grants certification after reviewing the company to establish a balance between work and family for workers. The companies are evaluated for their compliance with the family-friendly system based on the Labor Standards Act, the Act on Equal Employment for Both Sexes, and the Framework Act on Gender Equality. As of late, usage of paternity leaves and top management leadership have been critical indicators for the assessment.
CGBIO obtained its initial ‘Family-friendly Certified Company’ certification in 2019 by actively operating family-friendly policies to build an environment for the ‘Family-friendly Certified Company’ and ‘Great Place to Work’ certifications. The company has subsequently passed the expiration date extension review and was re-certified with the new expiration date set two years from December 1, 2022.
CGBIO has pre-emptively incorporated the paternity leave system and provided a work environment for its employees to be able to work flexibly according to their lifestyles by incorporating the flextime system where employees can maintain their prior working hours while adjusting their time for reporting to work and leaving work, and the telecommuting system where employees can work from their home. Also, the company is currently operating various systems including the refresh system where employees receive work time reduction for 1.5 hours once a month, aid for recreational facilities, paid healthcare leaves, reduced work hours during pregnancy, long-term service reward programs, etc.
As a result of actively employing such family-friendly and gender-equality policies, the ratio of female managers in CGBIO is at 33%. This results from measuring performance and compensating employees fairly without gender discrimination under family-friendly policies. According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor publication, the ratio of female managers in domestic public institutions and conglomerates is around 20%.
Companies actively incorporating family-friendly policies are also benefiting from actual work performance. According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the effect of incorporating family-friendly policies returned the results of ‘Improvement in worker satisfaction level (61.1%)’, ‘Improvement in worker productivity (49.2%)’, ‘Improvement in work conduct (45.8%)’, ‘Improvement in corporate productivity (43.5%)’, and ‘Decline in turnover rate (43.4%)’.
CGBIO CEO Hyun-seung Yu stated, “A great place to work and a place you want to work for starts with building an environment where employees can maximize their capabilities” and added, “We will continue to actively incorporate family-friendly policies for our employees to receive fair treatment without age or gender discrimination and be able to focus on their work.”
